For this assignment we had to take a picture of a landscape. I took this picture as the sun was setting. I really liked the reflection of the sun on the water. It has a lot of contrast between the darkened boats and the setting sun.

Texture

I took these pictures in my backyard. It took a while to focus my camera to capture the different textures in the image. I also used emphasis and color to make my photos unique.

Chapel

For this assignment our class walked down to the chapel to take pictures. I tried to take a photo where the side of the pew was emphasised. I also used the light from the windows to add value.

Mercy Streets

I took this picture while walking around my school. We were assigned to capture the essence of Mercy in one picture. I think this photo really expresses the beauty of out school. I originally took this photo in black and white, but i thought it had better contrast in b&w.

Love . . .

For this assignment I took multiple pictures and put them together into a stop motion video. To do this, I placed my camera on my desk and set it on continuous. In the individual pictures I used the concept of motion by having the eye follow the spiral down the middle.

Action Shot

I took this photo while at the beach with my family. It captures the motion of my brother jumping up into the air. This picture has emphasis and shape and form of my brothers shadow against the setting sun.

Artificial Movement

For this assignment I reused a picture I took of my brother. I used photoshop to create the effect that he was moving at a very fast pace by blurring the backround. By doing this the sense of motion is greater than if it was a clear picture.

My Choice

"The Block"

I took this photo while on a service trip to Salinas over the summer. I think it is a good example of both line and space. This photo has an implied line running down the street and along the sidewalk. It also shows the element of space by making the eye travel down the picture and follow the street. I also think there is an overall sense of unity in this picture.

Sunprint Image

"Sunprint"

This image was created during one of our first photo classes using a special, light absorbing paper which we places images on so that their shapes were captured. When editing my image on photoshop i found a filter that I thought gave my image a cool effect. It portrays the element of shape and form because of the objects and their individual imprints. It also shows the principle of variety becaust the objects are all very different from eachother.

This image was photographed by my friend Amare. We were required to take pictures for one another as an assignment on Halloween. I set up the camera and pose and had Amare take the picture for me. I think it expresses value because there are both pure white and pure black with all the grays inbetween. It also shows emphasis because it is a portrait and therefore focused on only one subject.

"Removed"

This picture was taken as part of an assignment we had during the first semester. Our instructions were to photograph a Mercy actress to supply her with pictures for her portfolio. I had my model look off to the side to portray the feeling of being deep in thought. This photo portrays value with all of the shades of black, white, and gray used. It also puts an emphasis on the model by having nothing distracting in the background or off to the sides.

"Jump"

I took this photo of my brother jumping over a fence in my front yard. It shows shape and form because of the random but unique positioning of his body, especially his legs. It also gies a sense of movement and rhythm. The movement of my brother jumping over the fence is the main purpose and focus of this picture.

Photoshop Altered Image

"When Life Gives You Lemons... "

This picture was taken in my Grandma's backyard. She has a beautiful lemon tree, so I decided to photograph it. After uploading my picture onto my computer I edited the contrast and overall brightness to make the lemon more prominent. I also added in the words, "when life gives you lemons" because i felt that they really fit the picture. This image is a good example of color and emphasis.

Principle of Design

"Lavender"

I took this photo while walking around my block. I decided to take the image up close so that my camera would focus on just one plant. This effect caused the other lavender to fade more into the backround which led to emphasis on just one component. This image also displays the principle of pattern because of the repeatting lavender plants all bunched together. There are many lines in this image from all of the stems, and there is a good texture due to the closeness and impact of it.

In the Style of Olivia Parker

"Irish Dancing Shoes"

I took this picture as a tribute to and in the style of Olivia Parker. She had a photo entitled, Miss Appleton's Shoes II, which i tried my best to emulate in my own way. This photo expresses value, texture, space, and unity. The value is shown in the different shades of gray, black , and white. The texture of the shoe is easily seen and it gives off a sense of space because of the angle it is taken at, causing the suadiences' eye to travel down the shoe. The unity in this phot comes from the two shoes being in harmony with one another.

Environmental Portrait

"Grandma Winnie"

I took this picture of my grandma without her knowing. She was finishing a conversation with my mom as we were leaving her house, and I took that opportunity to snap a candid of her. I really like this picture because my grandma is smiling. She rarely smiles in pictures because she is self-conscious of the tiny, unnoticeable gap between her front teeth. This image is an example of shape and form because it was not taken straight on, so my grandma takes up a specific portion of the photo that creates a unique outline against the background of her house. It also portrays the principle of emphasis because it is focused on my grandma as the one subject of the photo.

Element of Design

"Fence"

I took this picture outside in my front yard. I waited until the end of the day to take it because of the beautiful shadows it created. These shadows, along with the picket fence, portray the element of line. There is also a sense of balance between the shadows and their matching picket. Pattern is another principle that could be used to describe this picture because of the continuation of the pickets.

"Collage"

I created this image using a combination of many different items. I used the scanner to upload the background print from a scrapbook page I had. Then i scanned the white flower and duplicated it to create a pattern. I used a photo i had recently taken to go along with my flower theme and finally added the purple to green effect using a tool on photoshop. Besided the pattern from the flowers, this image portrays the unity of the central theme of flowers. It also has the element of line between all of the different sections, and texture due to the intricate details seen in the white flowers.

"Wooden Pegs"

Out of all of my photographs so far, this one is definitely my favorite. I had no idea at the time when i took it that it would turn out so nicely. I think changing it to black and white made it a better photo. It has the elements of line, value, space, and texture as well as the principles of unity and pattern. My favorite elements of this picture are value, because of the high contrast in relation to the blacks, whites, and grays, and space, because of the photo's ability to lead the viewers eye down the pathway. The overall unity and pattern of this photo are mainly due to the pegs and their alignment with one another.
